Solid-panel demountable walls deliver STC ratings of 45-52 - equivalent to standard drywall construction. They offer complete visual and acoustic privacy with the ability to relocate. Most systems accept standard paint finishes, wood veneer, fabric wrapping, or whiteboard surfaces.

Acoustic partitions are engineered specifically for sound control, achieving STC ratings above 50. They incorporate mass-loaded vinyl, dual-pane glass, and sealed gasket systems at floor and ceiling connections. The critical detail: acoustic performance depends more on installation quality than panel specification. Connection points at the ceiling, floor, and panel junctions are where most sound leaks occur.

What to Look for in an Installer

The product is rarely the problem - installation is. Modular walls that achieve STC 50 in a laboratory test can perform at STC 35 in the field if connection points are improperly sealed, ceiling intersections have gaps, or floor tracks are misaligned.

Look for installers with factory certification from the specific wall system being installed. Ask whether their crews are full-time employees or subcontracted labor. Request references from projects using the same wall system in similar building conditions. And verify that the installer will test acoustic performance at connection points - not just at panel center where the manufacturer's rating was measured.
